What is Trademark Renewal?
Trademarks are registered for a time period of 10 years. To experience the benefits of a trademarked brand after this time period, you need to get it renewed. You can renew it in the time period beginning from 6 months before the expiry date. You will be sent a notice to your registered address regarding the renewal before 6 months from expiry date. If you failed to file for renewal, the Registrar may advertise its intention to remove the trademark from the Trade Marks Journal. It will probably happen 12 months after the expiry date. After expiry date, you can still apply for trademark renewal till 12 months by paying the penalty through a process called restoration.
